The Holloway Way

Dress: Vintage, antique mall, $30 // Necklaces: F21 and Payless, $1 // Belt: Thrifted, $1 // Shoes: Abaete for Payless

Many members of the fashion community (including the lovely Jessica recently) have derived endless inspiration from Mad Men. After finding this dress, I couldn't resist doing my own ode to Joan.
The fabulous '60s frock wasn't by any means an impulse buy; I developed a relationship with it before the purchase took place. I first laid eyes on it while shopping for my Halloween costume (which is also Mad Men-inspired, more on that later). My first thought was, "If only I were being Joan, this would be perfect." Then I went back and saw it again. Hmm, that gorgeous emerald color and those charming faux fur-trimmed sleeves are totally in style this season. Then I kept thinking about it. On my third visit to the dress, I actually tried it on. Aside from a rather long hemline, it fit like a glove. Now I had to buy it!
For its debut (at the office of course), I paired it with simple black tights and taupe pumps. I finished the look with chunky gold chains, a leopard-print belt and a messy attempt at her perfectly arranged coiffure.

I know it makes me sound terribly cheap, but $30 seemed like a lot for to spend on a vintage dress (since I'm used to thrift store prices). But I'm already sure it was worth it.

  3. I love how your puppy has to get in on the picture. Already a fashion blogger...LOVE IT! That dress is really cute but I can understand how you feel about the $30.00 price tag. Sometimes "good vintage" costs a little more. Plus you dont want some Joan wannabe busting it out for halloween and ruining it do ya?

  9. Thanks, everyone!

The pumps actually are pretty comfortable. They have a nice padded insole and a hidden platform, which makes the heel height more manageable.

  12. I hear you on the price. I recently bought a vintage dress for $20, and was questioning it, as that seemed a bit high compared to what I'm used to at thrift stores.

I love the dress. The fur puffs on the sleeve are great, and I love the belt and necklaces you paired with it.

    Your puppy is absolutely adorable!!

  18. I'm so glad you're happy with your purchase, that's the most important thing, whether it cost 4 dollars or 400
    also, love the puppy (duh)
and I know what you mean about vtg!! I never buy vtg online because it is so overpriced, I always look in thriftstores but if I find something by a designer I'm willing to shell out a bit more... but I always remember- it's basically used clothes.

  19. mmmm.... I agree- $30 it takes an aweful lot of convincing to spend $30 on a dress. But Here its utterly worth it!

  22. Honestly, I'm the same when it comes to being cheap... generally when I go shopping, my limit is $15. But if it's worth it, I'd say that $30 is a decent price!

    Last picture = priceless

  24. Your dress is amazing. I know, its hard to adjust to spending more when one is used to hunting for good pieces for a low price at thrift stores. I always try to assess how unique the piece is and how much it is worth to me. Overall 20-30...occasionally more...is my max.
