Subtle Salute

Top: Thrifted, $2 // Sweater: Forever 21, $23 // Pants: Savers, $5 // Earrings: Target, $5 // Shoes: Payless

Hello all! I've been having some serious camera woes, so that's why it's been quiet this week. Last night I was going to do an explanatory post with a Photobooth shot of me and Igby looking sad. Those pictures weren't turning out, so I decided the technology gods were against me and went to bed. The winds have shifted slightly today. My camera is still pissed at me, but I was miraculously able to import a few photos including the one above of Saturday's outfit.

I haven't really done much with this spring's military trend, but I picked up these army green pants (the picture didn't capture the true color) in hopes of making a small reference to that aesthetic. I kind of wish they had some cargo pockets. How do you guys feel about the cargo comeback or the military look in general?

  1. Great outfit. Wish i could see the color better in the pants, but the overall fit/style i love. Sorry about your camera woes.

  5. I'm not really into the military look. Yet it keeps coming back! Khaki is no good for my complexion. And mostly I find it dull and ugly. I feel about the military look the same way I feel about crocs.

You though, look great in this outfit. Lovin' the hair so much! And the cardi with those pants-lovely. I would definitely wear those (despite their military reference). I suppose it could be done well (like you are doing here). But overall I find it such a blah style.

  8. Personally I love military detailing and wear it whether it's in or not (but it is usually in). Loving this outfit. You seem to have this wonderful skill for doing pared-back style and still keeping it interesting.

Hope the camera can be resuscitated.

  9. I'm really liking the military look that is coming back into style. Unfortunately I have not yet been able to thrift a jacket. I had two in high school that I got rid of that I am now dreaming about. I love those shoes. There are very similar ones at Old Navy that I have been eyeing for a while.

  10. I just love this outfit, and I love how a new haircut can totally change the aesthetic of a look.

I'm on the fence about the military thing. I love, LOVE olive as a neutral, but I resist camo with my life and am pretty ambivalent about all things cargo. I'm down with khaki, though.

  12. I'm not really into outright military themes like camo print or cargo pockets, but I like olive green, drab browns, cadet blue, etc., mixed with pastels, brights, and girly prints.

  17. Been reading your blog for awhile, and I think that this look, especially with your current haircut, is uber chic. Very sixties, very modern, and suits you very well.
Just wanted to give a well deserved comment.

  19. I've always enjoyed the military look, personally. It's actually something that's a large part of my wardrobe whether in or out of trend. I'm not really drawn to a khaki color military piece, but I often find myself drawn to navy and olive green. There's something so tough-girl and structured about it, yet one can make it feminine, too.

  23. I'm a fan of the military look. Of course, one must be choosy with military pieces. I think it's best done in a non-literal way(so no camo). I have a green, military-style trench and I love throwing it on top of jeans and a white or navy-striped tee.

  24. I love the military look. I bought this great olive green military inspired blazer thing when military was all over the place a few years ago, and now I feel the need to use it! The winter coat I got also is a bit military inspired, with epaulets and shiny buttons. I like how the military look makes girly prints more edgy. You have now inspired tomorrow's outfit! Haha!

Also, I pretty much fell in love with your outfit.

  28. I hate cargo pants, but do otherwise like the military look. I love it, actually. Once again, fabulous shoes. I'm shocked that Payless has such nice shoes.

  29. Amazing! I love every piece!

Did you get those shoes at Payless recently? Were they a special edition or something? I scour Payless relentlessly, but I haven't seen them.
