Wardrobe Malfunctions

Dress: Forever 21, $19 // Belt: Came with a dress // Shoes: Vintage, thrifted, $2 // Ring: Gift // Earrings: Courtesy of Early Jewelry

Today was defined by items that are difficult to wear. I started with this kind of odd (but kind of cute?) trench coat dress. I'm not really sure if it's supposed to be worn as a dress or a jacket because the slit comes up super high. I decided to wear a nude slip underneath, only to discover that it rides up when I walk. I ended up pinning the dress shut while at work. Anyway, I wanted to cinch the dress with a gorgeous vintage leather flower belt. I've had it for a couple of years but can't, for the life of me, figure out how it works! It's strangely designed and just doesn't stay put. So after fumbling with that for awhile, I decided to take the easy way out and throw on some black and red accessories. My troubles only continued when I remembered this bow belt requires an office clip to stay on, and these sandals have issues, too. They should be incredibly comfortable (the straps are elastic and the soles are soft and flexible), but they're astoundingly narrow. Whew! Anyway, here's hoping for a fuss-free day tomorrow.

  1. I love the belt and trench. I think I would wear it as a coat because I would definetely have a malfunction with a slit that high :P

  6. As difficult as this outfit may have been behavior wise for you, you look effortlessly well put together. The classic color combo of tan black and red make for a very elegant look. I do hope you are more comfortable tomorrow though! That riding up thing is one of my pet peeves!

  14. I love the mix of nude, black and red. The shoes look like a pair I have seen at Anthropologie that are probably ridiculously overpriced, so good find!

  17. I love those earrings and the ruffled trench dress. Hella cute! Sometimes annoying clothes are worth it! (NOT for everyday, though. Or I would live in corseted pencil skirts and 4-inch heels.)

  24. Wow, that sounds incredibly annoying. I have those "high maintenance" outfit days too. They sneak attack.

But, if it's any consolation (and of course it is): you look fabulous.

Also, I really am so curious about the belt now and want to make it work from thousands of miles away!

  38. looks great! having a skirt that rides up from the friction of whatever you're wearing under it (in my case, it's always tights), is the worst.

  39. Lol, I totally get the outfits-that-just-don't-work-though-they-should situation! And I mean that in terms of actually wearing it, not the way it looks (the outfit looks wonderful).

I can't tell you how many times I've planned to wear a skirt with a pair of leggings in the winter, only to find that the combo results in my skirt trying to ride up all day! ><

PS - I've been reading your blog for ages, but I don't think I've ever commented. Anyhow, just thought I'd let you know that your posts are a great source of inspiration for me. :)
