Proper Pin-Up

Dress: Kieu's, $15 // Sweater: Forever 21, $23 // Shoes: Vintage, thrifted, $1 // Ring: Courtesy of Accessorize

I felt like this look had some dual influences going on: the proper, almost nun-like quality of the collar coupled with the saucy animal-print and hot pink shoes.

Short Skirt, Long Jacket

Top: Vintage via Goodwill, $3 // Skirt: Urban Outfitters, $25 // Sweater: Old Navy via Salvation Army, $5 // Boots: Vintage via Wild Man Vintage, $15 // Necklace: Forever 21, $9

While chunky knits are especially big this season, they're a no-brainer for fall and winter every year, which makes me eager to expand my collection! Luckily, thrift stores are a good source for cute, cozy sweaters. I like how this oversize cardigan tones down an otherwise flirty ensemble.

Salute to Style

Top: Forever 21, $18 // Pants: H&M, $20 // Jacket: Hang Ten via Kohl's, $30 // Boots: Target, $35 // Necklace: Forever 21, $5 // Bracelet: Payless

Fall was in the air yesterday, so I decided to give a couple of seasonal trends a spin: over-the-knee boots and a military-style cropped anorak. While I experimented a bit with ultra tall boots last season, I'm still having a bit of trouble styling them. I think I've decided that with my stature, they look best with similarly hued tights and a short skirt or dress rather than with jeans or pants. How do you feel about over-the-knee boots?

Matchy Matchy

Dress: Goodwill, $5 // Belt: Came with another dress // Shoes: Vintage via Goodwill, $4 // Bracelet: Forever 21, $9

Here's a simple little office get-up from last week. Dusk snuck up on me. Hence, the yucky indoor photos. During the long days of summer, it's easy to forget how challenging it is to get good outdoor photos during the colder months! As for the outfit, I was wearing different shoes initially and then changed into these. At first, I kind of laughed at the black & white bracelet with the black & white shoes, but then I decided I liked the overt coordination.

Success!

Top: Old Navy, $15 // Skirt: Local shop, $20 // Necklace: JCPenney, $16 // Shoes: JCPenney, $10

My camera woes magically disappeared, so I have a few old outfits to share. This is what I wore on Monday. It felt like summer, so I dressed like it despite my yearning for fall fashion. It has cooled off quite a bit, so I'm breaking out some jackets this weekend! Also, sorry for the dreadfully wrinkly skirt. That's what I get for taking my outfit picture after sitting at a desk all day.

Phone Tag

Shirt: Urban Outfitters, $10 // Jeans: Delia's, secondhand, purchased with store credit // Shoes: Steven by Steve Madden, $50 // Necklace: Forever 21, $9
Boo! My camera and laptop are refusing to speak to each other right now. So, here are some first ever iPhone outfit pictures! I suppose a simple camera is sufficient to capture my understated ensemble. Today was all about quick and easy, so I fell back on menswear classics: white button-up, blue jeans and oxfords. I found myself yearning for a chunky wristwatch to complete the look. I'll have to keep an eye out at thrift stores!

Let Them Eat Cake

Top: Urban Outfitters, $10 // Shorts: Vintage, thrifted & hemmed, $3 // Blazer: H&M, $34 // Shoes: Christian Siriano for Payless // Necklace: Forever 21, $9

Some camera connectivity issues have prevented me from posting new outfits the past couple of days. For now, here's an ensemble I put together for a guest post on Jen Loves Kev. A big thank you to Jen for inviting me to contribute, and congratulations on the beautiful new baby! Check out the post to learn more about the inspiration behind this look. Hopefully I'll be back to normal daily outfits posts soon!

Shopping for Fall

Top: Alice+Olivia via Plato's Closet, $10 // Pants: Old Navy, $20 // Shoes: Dollhouse via TJMaxx, $25 // Glasses: Ragstock, $5

I typically don't make shopping lists for each season. In fact, I deliberately avoid doing so for fear that I will fall prey to too many trends. There are a few fall items that I've been casually keeping an eye out for: chunky sweaters, lace-up boots, leopard print accessories and skinny cords... which I found last night at Old Navy. I haven't worn cords in years because they tend to be more loose-fitting. It's such a soft, rich fabric for autumn, so I'm excited about this new silhouette that's been popping up. What are you buying for fall?

Seeing Spots

Top: Tucker for Target, $25 // Jeans: Goodwill, $5 // Shoes: Target, $15 // Earrings: Goodwill, $1

I usually wait for the Target guest designer stuff to go on sale, but this charming blouse had me at hello. I just couldn't pass up its big bow, polka dot print and rich fall colors. As for the denim culottes, some magazine feature would probably tell me not to wear them because I'm short, but I don't care because I love them!

Black & White

Top: Vintage via Goodwill, $4 // Jeans: Courtesy of Fossil // Shoes: Vintage, thrifted, $1 // Earrings: Forever 21, $8

Yesterday I had a thrift craving, so I hit up Goodwill. Not looking for anything in particular, I scanned the racks and spotted this sleeveless sweater. While I have several black & white striped pieces in my closet, I have long been looking for something with extra wide lines in true mod fashion. My haircut has definitely influenced my style, and this kind of clean, bold aesthetic is exactly what I feel like wearing right now!

Home is Wherever I'm With You

Dress: Forever 21, secondhand, purchased with store credit // Necklace: Forever 21, $9 // Boots: Blowfish, courtesy of Famous Footwear

Last weekend I had some people over to see the new house, and this is what I wore. It was a completely casual gathering, so I went for a cute but comfortable look. Since I failed to snap a picture the first time, I decided to give it another spin to go out for breakfast this morning. Happy Weekend, everyone!

Jumping the Gun

Tunic: Vintage, thrifted, $4 // Leggings: Forever 21, $16 // Necklace: Forever 21, $9 // Shoes: Forever 21, $26

It’s really not that cool outside, but I just can’t wait to wear some of my new fall pieces! My office is chilly, so I use that as an excuse. Anyway, on to my overly warm outfit…. this handmade paisley tunic was another vintage find from last weekend. I like having a one-of-a-kind piece to temper the otherwise Forever 21-dominated ensemble. You might as well get used to the trouser-like leggings, edgy oversize necklace and lace-up wedge booties now, though, because I have a feeling they will all be essential components of my autumn wardrobe. I believe I’m going to wear the leggings again tomorrow, and I will share with you what made me so excited to find them!

Blowin' in the Wind

Dress: Vintage, Wild Man Vintage, $18 // Bracelet: Forever 21, $6 // Shoes: Pour La Victoire via Goodwill, $6

Yesterday afternoon, I stepped out to enjoy the gorgeous weather. This resulted in some unplanned purchases including this retro dress. Whenever I find a vintage piece that fits just right, I inevitably buy it because it seems meant to be.

Second Chance

Dress: Anna Sui for Target, $10 // Earrings: Courtesy of Early Jewelry // Boots: Courtesy of Fossil

So, remember those boots I lost in the move? Fossil was nice enough to send me a different pair. I decided to play up their prettiness by pairing them with a dress for a day at the office followed by First Fridays in the Kansas City Crossroads Arts District. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Bad Blogger

Dress (worn as top): H&M, $25 // Skirt: Forever 21, $5 // Necklace: Forever 21, $9 // Hat: Payless, $10 // Shoes: Vintage, thrifted, $6

I've been abysmal at taking outfit photos this week! To tide you over till I get back into my groove, I reached into the archives and found this outfit from awhile back. If I remember correctly, I wore it a few weeks ago to the farmers' market. Though I have nothing to show for it, getting dressed this week has been a blast. It's as if the start of fall coincided with the beginning of September. That never happens! The chilly mornings and evenings with ideal afternoons in between have me on cloud nine!
