A Winning Combination

Top: Vintage, thrifted, $2 // Sweater: Thrifted, $4 // Jeans: Urban Outfitters, $29 // Boots: Forever 21, $28 // Belt: Came with F21 shorts // Necklace: Birthday gift

Often when I'm putting together an outfit, I feel like some kind of gimmick is required -- an unusual statement piece, an unexpected pairing of items, etc. Perhaps the cold weather is stifling my creativity a bit, but yesterday I didn't try anything fancy. Rather, I relied on the idea that combining several classic pieces would result in a successful ensemble... basic jeans, a simple top, a cozy cardigan, practical boots and a couple of accessories. It may not be flashy, but it certainly worked for me.

Happy Friday! My goal for next week is no night shots!

  1. I'm the same way! I sometimes think I need FLASH. But this looks great, and the little detail of the cuff on the jeans makes it stand out.

  6. I think the color scheme of this has plenty of flash! That red necklace really makes the outfit pop in my opinion. But then again I'm a very boring person...

  10. I'm the same way... I tend to wear a lot of black, so I always try to have one pop of colour in my outfits, even if it's only a pair of earrings. But sometimes, simplicity is the way to go, and in this case, it is, because you are the thing that stands out :) I found your blog on hercatwalk.com and I can't believe this is the first time I've stumbled upon it; you have great style and I am in love with your haircut!

  12. i've totally been noticing the same thing--classic pieces are "classic" for a reason. i've fallen into the bigger-and-weirder-might-be-cooler trap before, and i usually end up looking like a hot mess. you look fabulous here. i love your cuffed jean.

  13. Sometimes, non-flashy outfits are the ones I feel most comfortable in. I think this outfit is great, and I really love those boots!
