What Not to Wear

Top: Beside Yourself Top, courtesy of ModCloth // Skirt: Ann Taylor, thrifted, $1.50 // Shoes: Madden Girl, thrifted, $1.50 // Earrings: Payless // Belt: Thrifted, $1

The 30 for 30 challenge has certainly showed me what I don't like about the items I picked. For example, this red skirt is too big for me. More generally speaking, I've found that certain silhouettes and particular pieces are just not versatile for me. That's not to say this process has been undertaken in vain. It has allowed me to flex my remixing muscles and has caused me to appreciate what I have in my closet more than ever. Each time I realize something is missing from my selected items, I remember a piece I have and love but didn't include. What I'm really getting at is this has been a valuable learning experience, but I cannot wait to get back to my full closet. If I ever do it again, I'll have a much better idea of what to pick. How is everyone else who's taking part in the 30 for 30 holding up?

The skirt looks great on you, it doesn't look big. I guess it's because you styled it perfectly!

ps. The challenge is the best way to learn your style and body type better.

I think it's one of my favorite outfits!

You look cute! And the skirt doesn't look big, but if it feels big then that's not so great. I hate the feeling I get from wearing a big skirt. When I sit it all bunches around my stomach and it's just not flattering. One time someone miss took my for pregnant while wearing a big bunch skirt. Not cool:( hehe..

Even if you're not crazy about the skirt, you still look great. I love the gray and red together, and the top is adorable

i like this outfit a lot -- do you think you'll be weeding stuff out of your closet because of the remix? perhaps you should host a blog shop!

You're good, I quit after the third day! Your outfit is cute and the skirt doesn't look that big but I have to agree it looks looser than others you usually wear.

I really love the challenge - I feel like I dress better when I push my closet.

I added a handful of items in two 30 for 30s that I didn't wear the entire remix. It made me realize that I didn't even need to have them in my closet, and out they went. I agree, the 30 for 30 is an interesting process.

This has a nice 60s feel to it for me. I am sooo thankful to be back to the rest of my closet but looking back I did enjoy being forced to try new combinations with the pieces I chose...even if it didn't always work!

Thanks for sharing what pieces you'ved ended up questioning in this challenge. I learn a lot from style bloggers that explain what they don't like about a piece or why it may not work in the context of a particular outfit.

I quit early. I like building an outfit around a theme, idea, or interesting piece and it just wasn't fun anymore being limited to 30 pieces. I had the outfits lined up just not the patience to wear them. :)

You look pretty cute here! If the skirt is too big you did a good job styling it because it looks purposeful - you know, kind of voluminous.

The re-mix has been very rough for me! I actually had to take a few days off. It's sounds lame, but I just could not come up with other ways to wear several of the pieces. I also appreciate the learning experience, as well as my other clothes SO MUCH more.

I have to say that I made it to outfit number 20 and just gave up! I know this is a lame excuse, but being 8 1/2 months pregnant made the challenge very difficult. I didn't have a lot of variety in pieces and color, all my own fault, and then shoes became an issue. I could no longer wear heels and didn't have enough flats to supplement. If I were to do it again, I am armed with a little more knowledge of what to pick!

Like the colours here. And the remix is going OK for me, but I think it is actually harder than last time and I long for access to the rest of my wardrobe. Two more outfits to go.

I feel a lot the same way about the 30 for 30. It's helped me refine what I like about certain kinds of pieces, and, of course, what I don't.

I do love the bright color of this skirt, and it looks great with the cognac belt!

I am struggling with the 30 for 30 challenge a bit too. But for completely different reasons. One is that I've actually already worn over 30 unique outfits with my items, but because some days were too busy for photo documentation to take place, I am still dressing and remixing only from my 30 items. The second reason is that while I love my items, and I'm not having any problems thinking of different ways to wear them, this cold weather has finally gotten the best of me and I'm hardly wanting to get out of bed in the morning much less put effort into getting dressed. This cold is sucking my soul into it's icy abyss. So I guess maybe it's good that I'm participating in the 30 for 30 because it's forcing me to get dressed in something other than the same pants and oversized sweater everyday.

So, yes, is what I'm trying to say. I'm struggling too.

You're in the home stretch though girl, keep on keepin' on!
