Happy Halloween - Pt. 1
Sorry it's been dead (pun intended) around here this week! But let's let bygones be bygones and focus on what's really important... it's Halloween! This is arguably my favorite holiday, which says a lot coming from a girl who loves to celebrate. A day that revolves around dressing up? That's any fashion-lover's dream! The month-long excuse to indulge in candy and scary movies doesn't hurt either. Speaking of movies, I love to dress as film characters, which is just what I did for one of my costumes this year. This is my rendition of one of the Heathers from the '80s classic... after she drinks drain cleaner. Rather than trying to replicate an exact costume, I just went for her style, which was easy since she has such a signature look. This was a very easy costume to pull together. The shirt, jacket, tights, brooch and barrette came from my own closet. I picked up the skirt, shoes and wig from the thrift store, and I borrowed the croquet mallet. To achieve the dead look, I applied setting powder to my face (the main ingredient is talc, so I bet baby powder would work just fine), put light brown eye shadow around my eyes and covered my lips in foundation. Finally, I happily ate blue Jolly Ranchers throughout the evening for added effect.

Free Bird
This look was definitely more bohemian than how I normally dress, but it's good to mix things up every now and then, right? Happy Friday, everyone!

Heat Wave
After sweating in my sweater on Monday, I got wise and realized we're in the midst of some unseasonably warm weather! My summer clothes are packed away, but I made do with what I had and felt like this look was weather-appropriate while maintaining an autumnal feel. And while I may be in full fall mode, I must admit that sunshine felt good. Plus, I should probably take full advantage of sporting bare legs while I still can!

Busy Bee
I can't believe I'm just now getting around to posting... it's been one crazy day! This is a colorful, casual outfit I wore over the weekend accented by a couple of recent thrift store finds: the little bee earrings and the sweet navy flats.

Prim but Not Proper
I've always loved the tongue-in-cheek humor of this sweater I've had since high school. That spirit carries through the outfit as a whole. It looks like a fairly conservative ensemble until you notice the skulls, leather and stilettos.

Lady in Red
I wanted to showcase this pretty grid skirt I got recently, and what better way than by pairing it with even more red plaid? It also looked like the ladylike version of an outfit I wore over the weekend for a lumberjack party my roommate and I threw!

Unabashedly Autumnal
I know I (and all the other fans of fall) have been talking about the season non-stop, but I just can't help it! The leaves are changing, Halloween is quickly approaching, and I can't get enough of all things autumn -- including the colors of my clothes. Are you planning to dress up for Halloween? I'm toying with a couple of costume ideas, but I'll be sure to share whatever I go with.

Modern Renaissance
I spent Sunday amidst kings and queens, fairies and mermaids, knights and warriors, and lots of mud and men in tights at the Renaissance Festival! Always one to dress for an occasion, I scanned my closet for something derivative of the theme but came up empty-handed -- no peasant dresses or crushed velvet capes to be found. But I didn't give up altogether. Rather than going for a fair maiden look, I went a tougher route with a faux fur vest, over-the-knee boots and armor-esque necklace.

Pink & Polkas
This was the first outfit I put together after a major closet overhaul, and I found myself selecting each component very deliberately. It includes some recent favorites as well as this wool blazer that I thrifted a long time ago but have never worn! With all my winter clothes unpacked, lots of unwanted pieces weeded out, and my racks and drawers as organized as they're going to get, I'm hoping to make the most of my closet this coming season!

Juvenile Delinquent
I felt like a cross between a greaser and a square in this outfit, largely thanks to the black poodle sweater! The past week has been a charmed one when it comes to finding vintage treasures. I spent a few hours on Saturday browsing an antique store where I usually just admire trinkets and ended up walking away with three dresses, this top and a skirt. Then I cleaned up at the thrift store yesterday. Here's hoping this good luck lasts!
